Qur'an and the Hypocrites

Abul-Jawzaa, may Allaah have mercy on him, said:

نقل الحجارة أهون على المنافق من قراءة القرآن

ENGLISH:

"Hauling stones is easier on the hypocrite than reciting the Qur'an."

NEDERLANDS:

"Het dragen van stenen is makkelijker voor de Munaafiq dan het reciteren van de Qur'an."

"Don’t cry, O Daughter..."

It says in "Siyar A'lam An-Nubala":

لما نزل بعبد الله بن إدريس الموت ، بكت بنته ، فقال : لا تبكي ، قد ختمت في هذا البيت أربعة آلاف ختمة

ENGLISH:

"When death came upon ’Abdullaah Ibn Idrees, may Allaah have mercy on him, his daughter wept, so he said, "Don’t cry, O Daughter, for I have finished reciting the Qur'an in this house four thousand times."

NEDERLANDS:

"Toen Abdullah Ibn Idrees op sterfbed lag, moge Allaah hem genadig zijn, begon zijn dochter te huilen. Hij zei tegen haar: "Huil niet, O mijn dochter, want ik heb in dit huis 4,000 keer de Qur'an uitgelezen."

Umar on white garments

Umar ibn al-Khattab said:

إني لأحب أن أنظر إلى القارئ أبيض الثياب

ENGLISH:

"I love to look at a Qur'an reader in white garments."

NEDERLANDS:

"Ik hou ervan om naar Qur'an recitators in witte kleding te zien."

The one who wants to talk to Allah

فمن أراد ان يكلم الله تعالى فعليه بالصلاة
ومن أراد أن يكلمه الله تعالى فعليه بالقرآن

ENGLISH:

The one who wants to talk to Allah, should pray.
The one who wants Allah to talk to him, should read Qur'an.

NEDERLANDS:

Wie tegen Allah wilt spreken, moet bidden.
Wie wilt dat Allah tegen hem spreekt, moet Qur'an lezen.

"So they would ponder over it ..."

Al-Hasan Ibn Alee said:

إن من كان قبلكم رأوا القرآن رسائل من ربهم فكانوا يتدبرونها بالليل شذا في النهار

ENGLISH:

"Indeed those who came before you saw the Qur’an as personal letters from their Lord. So they would ponder over it by night and yearn for it by day."

NEDERLANDS:

"Voorwaar, degenen die voor jullie kwamen zagen de Qur'an als persoonlijke brieven van hun Heer. Overnacht zouden zij erover nadenken en overdag zouden zij ernaar verlangen."

"Were your hearts purified ..."

Uthman Ibn Affaan , said:

قال عثمان بن عفان : لو طهرت قلوبكم ما شبعتم من كلام ربكم

ENGLISH:

“Were your hearts purified, you would never be satiated by the words of your Lord.”

NEDERLANDS:

"Als jullie harten rein waren , dan zouden jullie nooit genoeg krijgen van de Woorden van jullie Heer".

"There is no single event that may take place ..."

Ash-Shaafi'ee (may Allah have mercy on him) writes:

فليست تنزل بأحد من أهل دين الله نازلة إلا وفي كتاب الله الدليلُ على سبيل الهدى فيها

ENGLISH:

"There is no single event that may take place to the people of the religion of Allaah but there is a guide in the Book of Allaah on how to handle it ..."

["Al-Risalah", 20].

"Reciting the Qur'an with alhan"

Abdullah bin Yazeed Al-Akbari said:

قال عبد لله بن يزيد العكبري:(سمعت رجلا يسأل أحمد ما تقول في القراءة بالألحان قال:ما اسمك؟قال محمد.
قال أيسرك أن يقال لك يا موحمد ممدودا )زاد المعاد1/463

ENGLISH:

A man once asked Imam Ahmad: "What do you say about reciting with alhân (singing manner)?" Imam Ahmad said: "What is your name?" The man replied: "Muhammad". Imam Ahmad said: "So would you like to be called MOOhammad?"

NEDERLANDS:

"Een man vroeg aan Imam Ahmad over het lezen van de Qur'an met een alhaan klank (zingend), dus hij vroeg: "Wat is jouw naam?" Hij antwoordde: "Mohammad". Imam Ahmad zei: "Zou jij het goed vinden als iemand jouw naam zou uitstrekken en jou MOOhammad zou noemen?"

"And do not let the Qur’an follow you!"

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari said:

إن هذا القرآن كائن لكم أجرا، وكائن عليكم وزرا، فاتبعوا القرآن و لا يتبعنكم القرآن ! فإنه من اتبع القرآن هبط به على رياض الجنة ومن تبعه القرآن زخ في قفاه، فقذفه في النار

ENGLISH:

"This Qur’an can either be your blessed reward, or it can become your unexpected burden on the day of reckoning. Follow the Qur’an and do not let the Qur’an follow you! For whosoever follows the Qur’an, it will lead him to the blissful gardens of janna, and whosoever is followed by the Qur’an, it will chase him and force him until it shoves him into the abyss of hell-fire (naar al-jahannam)".

NEDERLANDS:

"De Qur’aan kan enerzijds een gezegende beloning zijn, anderzijds kan het een onhandelbare last zijn op de Dag des Oordeels. Volg de Qur’aan en laat de Qur’aan niet jou volgen! "And the Qur'an is a medicine"

Al-Aajoeri writes:

ومن كانت هذه صفته عند تلاوته للقرآن وعند استماعه من غيره كان القرآن له شفاء فاستغنى بلا مال
وعزّ بلا عشيرة وأنس بما يستوحش منه غيره

ENGLISH:

"And the Qur'an is a medicine for whomsoever has these qualities in reciting or listening to it. He will be rich without money; powerful without a clan and he will feel accompanied where others feel loneliness".

NEDERLANDS:

"En de Qur'an is een medicijn voor wie deze eigenschap heeft bij het reciteren of luisteren ernaar. Hij zal rijk zijn zonder geld, hij zal macht hebben zonder clan en hij zal vertrouwdheid ervaren waar anderen eenzaamheid ervaren (omdat Allaah met hem zal zijn)".

["Akhlaaq Hamlat Al-Qur'an", 10].

"The Book of my Lord!"

Ibn Abi Mulaykah has narrated:

كان عكرمة بن أبي جهل يأخذ المصحف فيضعه على وجهه ويبكي ويقول كتاب ربي وكلام ربي

ENGLISH:

"Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl (may Allaah be pleased with him) would cry and put the mushaf against his face, saying: "The Book of my Lord! The Words of my Lord!"

NEDERLANDS:

"Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl (moge Allaah tevreden over hem zijn) zou huilend de mushaf tegen zijn gezicht drukken zeggende: "Boek van mijn Heer! Woorden van mijn Heer!"

["Kitaab Al-Jihaad", 56].

"Verily, each verse is like a date"

Bishr Bin As-Sirri has said:

ENGLISH:

"Verily, each verse is like a date: the more you chew it, the more of its sweetness is released.

NEDERLANDS:

“Voorwaar, elke vers (in de Qur’an) is zoals een dadel, hoe meer men erop kauwt hoe meer zoetheid eruit voortvloeit”.

Waar herken je een Qur'an lezer aan?

Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud heeft gezegd:

“Je herkent een Qur’an lezer aan zijn nachten waarin hij bidt terwijl de rest slaapt, aan zijn vrijwillige vasten terwijl de rest zit te feesten, aan zijn bezorgdheid terwijl de rest zit te genieten, aan zijn gehuil terwijl de rest zit te lachen, aan zijn stilte terwijl de rest al-haqq met al-batil mengt en aan zijn nederigheid terwijl de rest arrogant rondloopt”.

Geheim achter memoriseren

Ali Ibn Khashram zei:

“Ik lette op het gedrag van Wakee (ibn al Jarrah) en nooit heb ik hem iets met zijn handen zien schrijven. In plaats van schrijven, zou hij alles memoriseren. Dus ik vroeg: “Wat is het geheim achter memoriseren?” Hij antwoordde: “Het nalaten van ongehoorzaamheid! Niets steunt iemands geheugen meer dan dit!”
