"I was in Asbahan, when suddenly rain overtook me"

Khatteeb Al-Baghdadi narrates:

قال إسماعيل بن الفضل بن طاهر  رأيت سليمان الشاذكوني في النوم فقلت  ما فعل الله بك، يا أبا أيوب ؟
قال: غفر لي  قلت: بماذا ؟  قال: كنت في طريق أصبهان فأخذني المطر وكان معي كتب، ولم أكن تحت سقف ولا شيء فانكببت على كتبي حتى أصبحت وهدأ المطر، فغفرالله لي بذلك

ENGLISH:

Ismaa'iel bin Al-Fadhl bin Tahir said:

"I saw Sulayman Al-Shadhakuni in my dream and I asked him: "How did your Lord treat you, yaa Abaa Ayoob!" He said: "He forgave me". Ik asked: "On what grounds?" He said: "I was on the road towards Asbahan, when suddenly rain overtook me. I had with me some books (of knowledge) but I could not find any shelter of any sort! So I covered the books with my body (preventing the rain to fall on them) until I woke up in the morning and the rain had stopped and because of this, Allah forgave me".

"That is a wedding I did not attend"

Imam Ad-Dhahabi writes:

عن الأعمش قال أتى رجل الشعبي فقال ما اسم امرأة إبليس قال ذاك عرس ما شهدته

Al-A'mash said: "A man once came to Al-Shuu'bee and asked: "What is the name of the wife of Iblees (Satan)?" Al-Shu'bee said: "That is a wedding ceremony I did not attend".

Al-Bukhaari has narrated:

هذا الأثر أخرجه البخاري في "الأدب المفرد" (1113) عن أبي نُعَيْم الفَضْل بن دُكَين، عن سفيان الثوري، عن أبي سِنان ضِرار بن مُرة عن سعيد بن جُبير عن ابن عباس قال : لو قال لي فرعون بارك الله فيك قلت وفيك وفرعون قد مات. وأخرجه الطبراني (10/ رقم 10609)، علي بن عبد العزيز البغوي، عن أبي نعيم الفضل، به.
وعن الطبراني أخرجه أبو نعيم في حلية الأولياء (1/ 322). وأخرجه ابن المنذر في تفسيره (2072)، من طريق أبي بكر بن عَيَّاش، عن أبي سنان ضرار، به، بلفظ: وفيك بارك الله.
وقد قال الألباني في الصحيحية عن سند البخاري المذكور: سنده صحيح على شرط مسلم

Sa'eed Ibn Jubair narrated that Abdullah Ibn 'Abbas, radialahuanhu, said: "If Pharaoh had said to me: "Barakallaahu feek (May Allaah bless you)", I would have said: "Wa feek (And you)". But Pharaoh is dead."

"Every hadith Ibn Taymiyah does not know"

Ad-Dhahbi said regarding Ibn Taymiyah:

وله خبرة تامة بالرجال، وجرحهم وتعديلهم، وطبقاتهم، ومعرفة بفنون الحديث، وبالعالي والنازل،
والصحيح والسقيم، مع حفظه لمتونه، فلا يبلغ أحد في العصر رتبته، ولا يقاربه، بحيث يصدق عليه أن يقال: كل حديث لا يعرفه ابن تيمية فليس بحديث

"He had complete knowledge regarding narrators, regarding their criticism and praise, and their category, and knowledge of sciences of Hadith, and ‘Aali and Naazil, and Authentic and unauthentic, with his specialization in Hifz of texts, so no one reaches his status during his time, not even near him, such that It would be true if said: "Every hadith (narration) which Ibn Taymiyyah does not know, is not a Hadith".

Abdullah bin Yazeed Al-Akbari said:

A man once asked Imam Ahmad: "What do you say about reciting with alhân (singing manner)?" Imam Ahmad said: "What is your name?" The man replied: "Muhammad". Imam Ahmad said: "So would you like to be called MOOhammad?"

ENGLISH:

[ ... ] Hishaam narrated on the authority of his father, that Aishah was mentioned in the presence of a man and he reviled her, upon which it was said to him: "Is she then not your mother?" He said: "She is not my mother!" When news of this incident reached Aishah, radiallahuanha, she said: "He has spoken the truth! Indeed, I'm the mother of believers and not the mother of disbelievers".

حدثنا إسحاق أنبأ عيسى بن يونس عن ثور بن يزيد عن أبي عون عن أبي إدريس الخولاني قال لأن أرى في المسجد نارا لا أستطيع إطفائها أحب إلي من أرى فيه بدعة لا أستطيع تغييرها

ENGLISH:

Abu Idris Al-Khulani is narrated to have said: "To see a fire in a mosque which I'm unable to extinguish is more beloved to me than seeing in it a bid'ah which I'm unable to change".

Amr Ibn Al-Aas is narrated to have said:

ابكوا فإن لم تجدوا بكاء فتباكوا لو تعلمون العلم لصلى أحدكم حتى ينكسر ظهره و لبكى حتى ينقطع صوته

ENGLISH:

"Weep and if you cannot weep, then pretend that you weep (out of fear of Allaah). I swear by Him in whose hand my life is that if any of you really knew, you would plead until your voice went, and pray until your back was broken".

"Four affairs are good, but four others are better"

A wise man once said:

أربعة حسن، ولكن أربعة أحسن! الحياء من الرجال حسن، ولكنه من النساء أحسن.
والعدل من كل إنسان حسن، ولكنه من القضاء والأمراء أحسن. والتوبة من الشيخ حسن، ولكنها من الشباب أحسن. والجود من الأغنياء حسن، ولكنه من الفقراء أحسن

ENGLISH:

"Four affairs are good, but four others are better: The sense of shame of men is good, but the sense of shame of women is even better; the justice of every human being is good, but of the judges and rulers is even better; the tawbah of an old man is good, but of the younger ones even better; the generosity of the rich is good, but of the poor, even better".

NEDERLANDS:

"Vier zaken zijn goed, maar andere vier zijn nog beter: Het schaamte van de mannen is goed, maar van de vrouwen is nog beter; de rechtvaardigheid van alle mensen is goed, maar van de rechters en heerser is nog beter; de tawbah (berouw van zonden) van een oude man is goed, maar van de jongeren is nog beter; de vrijgevigheid van de rijken is goed, maar van de armen is nog beter".

"By Allah, we will crowd around him!"

Abu Muslim al-Khawlaani said:

أيظن أصحاب محمد أن يستأثروا به دوننا ، كلا والله ! لنزاحمنهم عليه زحاماً حتى يعلموا أنهم قد خلَّفوا وراءهم رجالاً.  وقد كان يقول كلمته هذه عندما كان يقوم الليل فإذا تعبت قدماه ضربها بيديه وقال ذلك

ENGLISH:

"Did the companions of Muhammad think that they would be the only ones who will be close to him? No, by Allah, we will crowd around him with them so that they will know that there were men (of ambition and will power) who succeeded them!" He used to say this whenever he spent the night in prayer and worship. If his feet grew tired he would strike them with his hand and say that".

"And Abu Zur'ah Ar-Raazi said: "I memorised two hundred thousand ahadith, as a person would memorize: "Qul Huwallahu Ahad". [Surah Al-Ikhlas, verse 1]. And according to another narration he is narrated to have said: "Three hundred thousand ahadith".

"Wahb bin Munabih said: "He who supplicated without deeds, is like the one who shoots (an arrow) without a bow".

إن هارون الرشيد لما أخذ زنديقاً فأمر بضرب عنقه ؛فقال له الزنديق : لَم تضرب عنقي ؟
قال : لأريح العباد منك ، فقال : يا أمير المؤمنين أين أنت من ألف حديث وضعتها فيكم ، أحرم فيها الحلال ، وأحلل فيها الحرام ، ما قال النبي منها حرفاً ؟ فقال له هارون الرشيد : أين أنت يا عدو الله من أبي إسحاق الفزاري وعبد الله بن المبارك ؟ فإنهما ينخلانها نخلاً فيخرجانها حرفاً حرفا

ENGLISH:

It is reported that once, a heretic was brought to Harun al-Rashid who subsequently ordered his execution. The heretic said to him: "Why are you executing me?" He said: "To relieve the worshippers of you (and your heresy)". The heretic said: "And what can you do about the one thousand narrations that I attributed to the Messenger of Allah although he did not utter a single letter of them?" Al-Rashid then said to him: "O enemy of Allah! And what can you do about Abu Ishaq al-Fazari and Ibn al-Mubarak who will sift through them and extract them one by one?!"
