"Zuhd is not attained except through Zuhd"

Ishaq ibn Hane’ al-Naysabouri said:

ENGLISH:

"Abu Abdullah (Imam Ahmad) told me: "Come early one day so that you may narrate to me something about Zuhd (Asceticism)." So I came early to him, and told the mother of his child: "Bring me a rug and a pillow." So she set it up in the corridor. Abu Abdullah came out and with him he had the books and the inkwell. He looked at the rug and the pillow and said: "What is that?" So I said: "For you to sit on." So he said: "Remove them, for indeed Zuhd is not attained except through Zuhd." So I removed them, and he sat on the sand."

NEDERLANDS:

ENGLISH:

A boy used to study the Qur'an in a school. One day, he went to the bathhouse to wash himself, but he had no money. So he said to the owner at the entrance of the bathhouse: "I don't have two qiraan (currency), but I can read you some Qur'an instead." The bath owner refused. The boy tried to persuade him again, but to no avail.

So the boy said to himself: If reading 10 Qur'an's is not even worth 2 Qiran's (currency), then why should I waste my time studying it!

He stopped going to school.

One day, the teacher asked the students: "Where is such and such?" Then they told him what happened.

The teacher called him and gave him a ring, saying: "Go to the greengrocery and exchange this ring for some spinach." He went to the greengrocery, but the shopkeeper did not agree to exchange the ring for spinach, deeming it insignificant. So the boy got back to the teacher. The teacher then advised him to go to the goldsmith and exchange it for money first and then go and buy the spinach.

When the boy went to the goldsmith, the goldsmith said:

"Go back, because I cannot even afford to pay you the total amount of money this ring is worth!"

This is when the teacher said to the student: "The value of gold is known to the goldsmith [only]."

Being absent from your partner

The following incident has been narrated in many classical books:

ENGLISH:

Imaam Malik has narrated in his "Muwatta", on the authority of Abdullah bin Dinar: "Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab went on patrol on a night, and he heard a woman saying:

"This night stretches out and it is dark,
and that I am without a companion to be intimate with has made me so sleepless.
Were it not for my fear of Allaah,
the sides of this bed would have been moving!"

... So Umar asked his daughter Hafsah: "How long can a woman remain without her husband?" She said: "Six months... or (actually) Four months." So Umar declared: No person should be sent on a military expedition for longer then that.

NEDERLANDS:

"This is who I am... Who are you?"

Hassan Al-Banna was asked to shed some light on his personality and he said: "I am a traveler seeking the Truth, a human searching for the meaning of humanity, and a citizen seeking dignity, freedom, stability and welfare under the shade of Islam. I am a free man who is aware of the purpose of his existence and calls, truly, my prayer and my sacrifice, my life and my death, are all for Allah, the Cherisher of the worlds; He has no partner. This I am commanded and I am among those who submit to His Will." He then said: "This is who I am... Who are you?"

NEDERLANDS:

Living from the dead and dead from the living

Ibn Taymiyah said :

ENGLISH:

"So one does not say: "The body of Abdullah, the father (of the Prophet Muhammad) is better than the bodies of (other) Prophets (even though he begot the best of creation)... because verily, Allaah brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living."

NEDERLANDS:

["Majmu Al-Fatawa", 27/37].

The dhaahiri (literalistic) approach...

Taken from: http://ihyaauddeen.co.za/?p=307
ENGLISH:

"... Another person declared that it was forbidden to water one’s neighbour’s garden. He substantiated it by quoting the following Hadith (which is authentic):

"It is not permitted for one who believes in Allah and the last day to irrigate someone else’s crop with his own water." [1]

The Hadith actually implies that, if someone acquired a pregnant slave woman, then he is prohibited from copulating with her until she gives birth."

NEDERLANDS:

ENGLISH:

"It is narrated in Bukhari that Allah said, “I declare war upon the one who troubles my wali.” Khatib Baghdadi relates from Abu Hanifah  and Shafi'i that “If the fuqaha (jurists) and ulema (scholars) are not the Auliyah of Allah, then nobody is a wali of Allah .” Al-Shafi'iee also said: "The fuqaha are those who act (upon their knowledge)." Abdullah bin Abbas says, “Anyone who troubles a faqih troubles the Blessed Prophet.”

NEDERLANDS:

NEDERLANDS:
