"How difficult can our choice be?"

Imam Al-Qurtubee writes in his Tafsir:

قال مالك بن دينار : لو كانت الدنيا من ذهب يفنى ، والآخرة من خزف يبقى ، لكان الواجب أن يؤثر خزف يبقى ، على ذهب يفنى . قال : فكيف والآخرة من ذهب يبقى ، والدنيا من خزف يفنى

ENGLISH:

"Malik Ibn Dinar said: "If the dunya consisted of temporary gold, and the hereafter of eternal sand, then a smart person should choose the eternal sand and ignore the temporary gold!" I say: Well, then how difficult can our choice realy be, when we know that the dunya consists of temporary sand and the hereafter consists of eternal gold?"

"Malik Ibn Dinar zei: "Als de doenya uit tijdelijk aanwezig goud zou bestaan en het hiernamaals uit eeuwig aanwezig zand zou bestaan, dan zou een slim persoon voor het eeuwig blijvende zand kiezen en het tijdelijk bestaande goud links laten liggen!" Ik zeg: Welnu, hoe moeilijk kan de keuze zijn nu we weten dat de doenya uit tijdelijk zand bestaant en het hiernamaals uit eeuwig blijvend goud?"
