"If you find me in the ranks of the Tartars"

Ibn Kathir writes about his teacher:

وكان الشيخ تقي الدين ابن تيمية يقول للناس : إذا رأيتموني من ذلك الجانب , أي مع التتار , وعلى رأسي مصحف فاقتلوني فتشجع الناس في قتال التتار وقويت قلوبهم ونياتهم ولله الحمد

ENGLISH:

"And Hafiz Ibn Taymiyah would say to the people: "If you find me in the ranks of the Tartars then kill me, even if I have the Qur'an over my head!" So he encouraged people to fight the Tatars and he strengthened their hearts and intentions, walilahilhamd (All praise be to Allah)!"

"En Ibn Taymiyah zou tegen de mensen zeggen: "Als jullie mij in de ranken van de Tataren  aantreffen, maak mij dan dood, zelfs als ik een Qur'an boven mijn hoofd heb!" Dus hij spoorde de mensen aan om de Tartaren te bestrijden en hij versterkte hun harten en intenties, lof zij aan Allah!"
