“O Allah! They prevented me”

As-Subki writes:

وكان البويطي وهو في الحبس يغتسل كل جمعة، ويتطيب، ويغسل ثيابه، ثم يخرج إلى باب السجن إذا سمع النداء، فيردّه السجان، فيقول البويطي: اللهم! إني أجبت داعيك فمنعوني.  وكتب البويطي إلى الذهلي: أسألك أن تعرض حالي على إخواننا أهل الحديث، لعل الله يُخلِّصني بدعائهم، فإني في الحديد، وقد عجزتُ عن أداء الفرائض؛ من الطهارة والصلاة. فضجّ الناس بالبكاء والدعاء له

ENGLISH:

"And al-Buwayti would, while he was in captivity, make ghusl every Friday and perfume himself and wash his garments, and then go out to the door of the prison when he heard the call, and the jailer would send him back. Al-Buwayti would then say, “O Allah! I have answered your call and they prevented me.”  And al-Buwayti wrote to al-Dhahli, “I ask you to inform our brothers from ahlul-hadeeth about my state, so perhaps Allah will save me through their supplications. I am shackled and I am unable to perform the obligatory acts of tahaarah and salaah (al-far'aaidh).” So the people clamored in their crying and supplicating for him".

"Al-Buwayti zou, terwijl hij in gevangenischap zat, elke vrijdag de ghusl verrichten, zichzelf parfumeren en zijn kleding wassen. Hij zou dan richting de deur lopen als hij de oproep tot het vrijdagsgebed hoorde. De cipier zou hem tegenhouden en terugsturen naar zijn cel. Al-Buwayti zou dan zeggen: "O Allaah! Ik heb Uw Oproep verhoord en zij hielden mij tegen". En Al-Buwayti schreef aan al-Dhahli zeggende: "Ik vraag jou om mijn broeders van ahlul-hadeeth te informeren over mijn situatie, wellicht zal Allaah mij redden door hun smeekbedes. Ik ben vastgeketend en kan de verplichte zaken van tahaarah en salaah niet verrichten". Bij het horen van zijn bericht, begonnen de mensen intens te huilen en smeekbedes voor hem te verrichten".
