"Even the straps of his shoes"

Ali bin Abi Talib said:

إن الرجل ليعجبه من شراك نعله أن يكون أجود من شراك صاحبه , فيدخل في قوله : تلك الدار الآخرة نجعلها للذين لا يريدون علوا في الأرض ولا فسادا , والعاقبة للمتقين

ENGLISH:

"A man who desires that even the straps of his shoes are better than those of his friend enters into those mentioned in this verse: {"And this is the abode of the Hereafter: We prepare it for those who do not seek high status or mischief in the land."} [Surah Al-Qasas; 83]."

"Een man die wenst dat zelfs de veters van zijn schoenen beter zijn dan die van zijn vriend, valt onder degenen die bedoeld worden in het Vers: {"Daar is het tehuis van het Hiernamaals! Wij geven het degenen die op aarde geen zelfverheffing wensen, noch wanorde stichten"} [Qasas; 83]."
