"I would have gone to a land where ..."

Ibn Abbas is reported to have said:

لولا مخافة الوسواس، لدخلت إلى بلاد لا أنيس بها، وهل يفسد الناس إلا الناس

ENGLISH:

"Had I not feared the waswas (of shaytan), I would have gone to a land where I had no companion. Has anything else but the people been the reason for people's corruption?!"

NEDERLANDS:

"Als ik niet de waswaas (influisteringen) vreesde, dan zou ik naar een land gaan waar geen metgezel is. Wordt de mens dan niet bedorven door niets anders dan de mensen?!"
