"But Allaah knows them!"

Ayidh al-Qarni wrote:

قُتلَ شهداءُ بقندهار ، فقال عمرُ للصحابةِ : من القتلى ؟ فذكروا لهُ الأسماء ، فقالوا : وأناسٌ لا تعرفُهم .
فدمعتْ عينا عمرَ ، وقال : ولكنَّ الله يعلَمُهم

ENGLISH:

"Martyrs were killed in Qandahar (in Afghanistan), and Umar asked the companions: "Who was killed?" They mentioned some names to him and then they said: "And people whom you do not know". Umar's eyes filled with tears and he said: "But Allaah knows them".

NEDERLANDS:

"Er vielen martelaren in Qandahar (in Afghanistan), dus Umar vroeg aan zijn metgezellen: "Wie werden er gedood?" Zij noemden een paar namen en zeiden: "En nog een aantal die u niet kent". Umar's ogen werden vol met tranen en hij zei: "Maar Allah kent hun wel!"
