"With the ink-pot to the grave"

Ibn Al-Jawzi writes:

قال صالح بن أحمد بن حنبل: رأى رجل مع أبي محبرة، فقال له: يا أبا عبد الله، أنت قد بلغت هذا المبلغ، وأنت إمام المسلمين! يعني: ومعك المحبرة تحملها؟ فقال: مع المحبرة، إلى المقبرة

ENGLISH:

"Salih the son of Imam Ahmad said: "A man saw an inkpot in my fathers hand, so he said: "O Abu Abdullah, you have reached such a high position, you are the Imam of the muslimeen! Until when will you carry that ink pot." He said : "With the ink-pot to the grave."

NEDERLANDS:

"Salih de zoon van Imam Ahmad zei: "Een man zag een inktpot in mijn vaders hand dus hij zei: "O Abu Abdullaah, u hebt zo'n hoge positie bereikt, u bent de imam al-muslimien! Tot wanneer zult nog een inktpot in uw handen hebben?" Imam Ahmad zei: "Met de inktpot naar het graf".
