"So that he wouldn’t be bothered by its noise"

An-Nawawi has narrated:

قال الشافعي رحمه الله : كنت أصفح الورق بين يدي مالك رحمه الله صفحا رفيقاً، هيبة له لئلا يسمع وقعها

ENGLISH:

"Ash-Shafi’i (may Allah have Mercy on him) said: "I would turn the pages of my books in front of Malik (may Allah have Mercy on him) in a very soft, quiet way so that he wouldn’t be bothered by its noise (out of respect for him)".

NEDERLANDS:

"Ash-Shafi'ie heeft gezegt: "Ik draaide de bladzijdes [van mijn boek] heel langzaam in de aanwezigheid van Malik, uit ontzag voor hem, zodat ik hem niet zou storen met het geluid ervan (uit respect voor hem)".
