Abu Haazim al-Zaahid said:

وأما مَن شكر بلسانه ولم يشكر بجميع أعضائه : فمثَلُه كمثل رجل له كساء فأخذ بطرفه ، فلم يلبسه ، فلم ينفعه ذلك من البرد ، والحر ، والثلج ، والمطر

ENGLISH:

"As for the one who gives thanks with his tongue but does not give thanks with all of his physical faculties, his likeness is that of a man who has a cloak and takes hold of the edge of it, but does not put it on, so it is of no benefit to him against cold or heat or snow or rain".

NEDERLANDS:

"De gelijkenis van iemand die dankbaar is met zijn mond maar geen dank toont met zijn hele lichaam (zoals gebed enz) is zoals iemand die een jas bezit en het dan slechts aan de voorkant vasthoudt zonder het te dragen! De jas zal hem totaal geen voordeel brengen tegen koud en hitte of tegen sneeuw en regen (of het soortgelijke)".
