"Do not tire of asking for forgiveness"

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali said:

قيل للحسن – أي : البصري - : ألا يستحيى أحدنا من ربه يستغفر من ذنوبه ثم يعود ، ثم يستغفر ثم يعود ؟ فقال : ودَّ الشيطان لو ظفر منكم بهذا ، فلا تملوا من الاستغفار .

ENGLISH:

It was said to Hasan Al-Basri: "Shouldn’t one of us feel too shy to ask his Lord to forgive his sin, then do it again, then ask for forgiveness, then do it again?" He said: "The Shaytaan wishes that you would have this attitude, so do not tire of asking for forgiveness".

Tegen Hassan Al-Basri werd gezegd: "Wij schamen ons om telkens berouw te tonen terwijl wij later diezelfde zondes weer herhalen". Hassan Al-Basri zei: "Dat is precies hetgeen shaytan jullie wou laten denken, dus wordt nooit moe van het zoeken van vergiffenis!"
